New Twitter owner Elon Musk announced in a tweet Thursday that he had decided, based on the result of a 24-hour referendum he conducted on the platform, to issue a "general amnesty" for frozen accounts on his site and reactivate them from next week.
The beginning date of the comprehensive amnesty
"The people have spoken. The general amnesty begins next week," he said in response to an earlier tweet on Wednesday in which he asked tweeters to answer in a referendum the question: "Is Twitter supposed to grant a general amnesty to frozen accounts provided they have not violated the law or sent blatant spam?"
Statistics answer the question
72.4% of tweeters answered Musk's question "yes," while 27.6% answered "no."
Activate the account of former President Trump
Musk used the same phrase "the people have spoken" to announce last week the reactivation of former US President Donald Trump's account after it was banned after a number of his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Musk wealth is the king of Twitter
Musk, the world's richest man and owner of Tesla and SpaceX, decided to reactivate Trump's account based on a similar poll he conducted that favored the former president.
Musk acquired the Blue Bird platform at the end of October for $44 billion.
